The ambiance is also very inviting and comfortable in both of their dining rooms. Not something I expected, but very much appreciated. They had a children's menu, and also brought them coloring sheets and crayons. Though our adult children are doing an excellent job of teaching their small children how to behave in public settings, it made it more comfortable for everyone. We were in one dining area, and parties that were all adults were seated in another dining area. While we were waiting for our food to be prepared, the host took our 1 year old on a kitchen tour! All of the staff were gracious and professional. If we decided when we got there we wanted to be outdoors, that would be fine. it was pretty warm outside (it was) and that they would be happy to set up a place for us indoors. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and because we were going to have 2 young children with us, I thought that maybe outdoor would be better for us and for other customers. I was impressed from the time I made our reservation. The food was good, but the overall experience was lacking. The gentleman who came around to ask us how things were was very personable and made sure that we enjoyed the food. It seemed to me as if the wait staff was not ready for the evening rush (several tables filled up shortly after we ordered). However, when it did finally show up, all of it was very good. We then waited a very, and I mean very, long time for the food to arrive. The cream of broccoli soup was very good according to my wife. I opted for the cannelloni, my wife ordered the rotolo, and my daughter the fettuccini alfredo. The menu had plenty of traditional Italian options and the Specials menu looked good as well. My beer took nearly twenty minutes to arrive, and that was only after I asked about it. Once seated, we waited quite a while before the server took our drink order. We questioned whether or not the place was any good simply based upon the lack of diners. Not a problem, since we hadn't intended on getting a pizza anyway. Upon entering, there was a sign stating that pizza was unavailable. We've lived in Glen Ellyn for several years but hadn't tried Marinella until this weekend. But I also found that the ricotta was bitter, as if on the point of going bad, like they had mixed old and fresh ricotta to save money! With so many great options in town, I will not go back. So I separated the eggplant from the filling, to see if it was the cheese. They must serve on cold plates?), I didn’t push it. It wasn’t every bite, which is consistent with spots of mold, but he was defensive and explained to me that this was impossible, everything was fresh! Since I had already waited for them to reheat the meal (which came back not hot the second time, either. I figured it was the eggplant, and brought it to the attention of the (same) server. What really blew it for me was that a few bites in, I tasted the unmistakable flavor of mold. So two out of five meals weren’t right, but no huge problems. But the arrabiata wasn’t spicy on one of the meals, and my dish was served luke warm. Very nice soup or salad that came with the meal, good wine selection, including by the glass. One of the party asked to sample a wine before ordering it, and the server (owner?) was impatient with that.
